Yoga Classes

Since we can't possibly teach all the varieties of yoga, we've put together an offering of classes we think offer the best learning experience. As always, if you don't see a particular type of Yoga you enjoy or have questions, please send an email to Tish Niffenegger, the Group Exercise Director.

All of our yoga classes are perfect for both men and women and most of the classes are perfect for any level of experience. Class schedules are updated each month at 12:01 AM.

*Fitness First no longer provides yoga mats for our members due to health related issues, however you may bring your own mat or purchase a yoga mat online at a cost of only $13.95.

A-I Style Yoga
Anusara/Iyengar Style Yoga Anusara Yoga, designed by John Friend, uses attitude, alignment and actions to make each pose a celebration of life. Iyengar Yoga, developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, focuses on balanced alignment in postures, sometimes using props to help an individual find unity within.

Advanced Yoga
Relax strengthen and soothe your body and mind in this advanced level yoga class. You will increase your flexibility and strength through various postures and breathing techniques. This class will also instroduce more challenging poses for experienced yoga followers.

Anusara Yoga
Anusara Yoga, designed by John Friend, uses attitude, alignment and actions to make each pose a celebration of life. Iyengar Yoga, developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, focuses on balanced alignment in postures, sometimes using props to help an individual find unity within.

Beginner Yoga
Appropriate for all levels, this class is an introduction to the basic asanas and breathing techniques of Hatha Yoga.

Bliss Yoga
A great gentle class for individuals with special needs. In this class you'll discover a vibrant and long lasting way of identifying with your body, riding yourself of prolonged patterns of discomfort and misalignment. Emphasis is placed on correct postural integrity and the essence of the pose.

Chair Yoga
Stretch, relax, breath, and enjoy a taste of Yoga at a beginner level. A chair is used for this mostly seated class and available for balance during the short standing segments.

Fitness Yoga
A flowing yoga program which focuses on using breathing techniques to move rapidly from one pose to another to increase the heart rate. Classes focus on upper-weight bearing exercises, lower-body strengthening, torso stability and balance.

Gentle Yoga
Emphasis placed on breathing and body alignment, while focusing on the spiritual, as well as the physical dimensions of yoga. The various poses develop flexibility and strength while maintaining an inner peace. Students are encouraged to practice within their limits, be patient and develop slowly and carefully. The class ends in a deep relaxation, usually followed by a short period of meditation.

Hatha Yoga
Hatha yoga classes will introduce you to basic breathing techniques and asanas necessary to achieve grace, beauty and balance. Instruction flows from Iyengar and Anusara traditions. The class ranges from mildly to moderately challenging, and emphasizes each individual's true expression.

Healing Yoga
Slow stretches done in a horizontal position will ease pressure on the spine and promote more circulation throughout the body. If you are not flexible this is the class for. Very flexible people will find this class wonderful for their needs as well.

Iyengar Yoga

kids Yoga
Mature children of all ages can benefit from learning to free their mind cleanse their soul and stretch and strengthen their bodies in this class

Kripalu Yoga
Developed by Yogi, Amrit Desai, this form of yoga includes three distinct stages. 1). Willful practice, with a focus on alignment, breathing and consciousness. 2). Practice in holding various postures through the many levels of tolerance. 3.) Mediation in motion.

Kundalini Yoga
The power of Kundalini Yoga comes from the Kundalini, an enormous reserve of untapped potential within each of us. By gradually and safely awakening this power, you will benefit greatly from an elevation in consciousness, promotion of physical well-being and an expansion of awareness. You will feel more relaxed and at ease with yourself. Your life will be transformed into one which is happy, healthy & harmonious.

Living Yoga
Emphasis placed on breathing and body alignment, while focusing on the spiritual as well as the physical dimensions of yoga. Mixed Levels Yoga
Offers students familiar with yoga and new students opportunities to explore yoga within their own abilities. Modifications on challenging postures are offered, and instruction focuses on details of each posture so that students can gain understanding of yoga asanas, including balances, basic inversions, back bends, forward bends, twists, breath awareness, and relaxation. Some vinyasa, or sequencing, of postures is integrated into each class.

Power Yoga
A flowing yoga program that focuses on using breathing techniques to move rapidly from one pose to another to increase the heart rate. Classes focus on upper weight bearing exercises, lower body strengthening, torso stability and balance.

Power Yoga (F.S.)
Power Yoga (Flexible Strength): A flowing yoga program which focuses on using breathing techniques to move rapidly from one pose to another to increase the heart rate. Classes focus on upper weight-bearing exercises, lower-body strengthening, torso stability and balance.

Pregnancy Yoga
A relaxing yoga experience for our expecting mothers.

Restorative Yoga
This class will teach you how to use supported poses to manage and enhance relaxation. Participants will learn the essence of becoming a human being, rather than human doing, and how to develop skills to renew the senses and restore the mind.

Senior's Yoga
Appropriate for all levels this cool down class is an introduction to the basic asanas and breathing techniques of hatha yoga focusing on overall release of the bodys musculature

Sivananda Yoga
Based on the philosophy of Swami Sivananda whose lessons were to, serve, love, purify, meditate and realize. This class emphasizes strength and flexibility of the spine. Breathing techniques, guided relaxation and meditation are also stressed.

Sunrise Yoga
Allow the flow of yoga to awaken and energize your body. Increase flexibility and strength through various postures and breathing exercises.

Vak Yoga
A comprehensive and holistic form of yoga that integrates the symbiotic relationship between body, mind and soul. It allows you to rediscover the primary structures of state or process that exists within us and enables us to explore the nuances of the body, mind and soul.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga
An active Hatha yoga class that flows through a series of postures linking breath to movement to enhance the mindbody connection. The class begins with gentle repetitive flows and progresses through sun salutations warrior poses and other sequences. Deep stretching and relaxation complete the class. Careful attention is paid to body alignment and breath awareness. Modifications and options are offered to accommodate the beginner to the more advanced yoga practitioner.

Vinyasa Yoga
This yoga class focuses on natural alignment, deep breathing and ends with meditation.

Wei Yoga
A unique combination of flexibility and strength utilizing yoga poses with light resistance will enhance spinal stability and boost stamina. This class is open to first time yoga students and long time practitioners. It will enhance bone density and in addition we will practice breath awareness and mind body connection.

Yoga
Relax, strengthen and soothe your body and mind in this beginning to intermediate level yoga class. You will increase your flexibility and strength through various postures and breathing techniques. A perfect compliment to all forms of exercise.

Yoga Ball
A flowing yoga program which focuses on using breathing techniques and resist-a-balls to move rapidly from one pose to another to increase the heart rate. Classes focus on upper weight bearing exercises, lower body strengthening, torso stability and balance.

Yoga Connections
A rhythmic, fluid, strengthening style of asana and meditation that incourages focused, deep breathing and a calm mind to help release muscle tension, thus improving flexibility and relaxation. Emphasizes using breathing as a metronome, to guide the pace of activity, connecting the body and mind with the spirit. Class may include use of props, including balls, blocks and straps to help guide students with the various poses.

Yoga Express
A 30 minute yoga class designed to stretch and lengthen muscles after working out.

Yoga Groove
Not your average yoga class. Designed by Yoga Instructor Elisa Mott this class blends traditional yoga with creative dance and expressive movement. A different style of music and movement will be offered each week. Experience a deeper awareness of mind body and soul while moving and grooving.

Yogalates
A combination of Yoga and Pilates. You will increase your flexibility, and relax as well as strengthen your core muscles.
